SD card does not install

I have had this problem with cm9 & cm10 rom, not in the beginning but after a while of running these roms. What happens is I boot the table as normal wait for the software to check the sd card and finally install the apps I have moved to that part of the touchpad. Well, I took it on vacation with me to virtually the other side of the world and on day one cm10 booted fine with no problems to speak of, all the apps were installed. I turned off the tablet until I reached my destination and booted into webos because of a specific app that Android does not have, then decided to begin the presentation of a short video I had saved on my tablet. Booted into android, waited for the sd card check and nothing. Those apps I moved to the sd card refused to install. I rebooted numerous times, tried to restore to a previous version but unfortunately the backup was on the sd card. I connected the device to my laptop and found that the data is still in tact but not able to be installed. I did recall some info about repairing sd card issues but not certain if anyone of you developers saw this issue. Any and all comments would be helpful. I know a true fix, but that would require me to reinstall cm10 as that has been a fix previously. Unfortunately the computer that has all that software is halfway around the world back at home. I would like to repair/fix this dilemma if I can. thanks so much.

You need your PC to fix this. I suspect you have been hit by the infamous "50 app limit" issue. Basically, once you move too many apps to your SD card, because you are running out of internal memory(the data partition), the SD card gets dismounted and only a couple of ways to resolve the issue exist. Either uninstall enough apps from the SD card so the problem goes away, or increase the size of the data volume(partition) and keep all your apps installed there. Here is a link to a thread started by J. C. Sullins.

http://rootzwiki.com/topic/13277-fixes-for-sdcard-issues-for-all-versions-of-cyanogenmod/

It's rather old and a lot of the fixes in the OP should not really be used. The one that really worked is about half way down the page and starts with,

"The last fix/workaround allows you to increase the size of your
'Internal storage'. This will allow you to store more apps on
your 'Internal storage' and avoid having them on the 'sdcard'."

What J.C. does not explain in that section is the only reliable way to get that fix to work is make a backup with Titanium Backup, then uninstall Android with ACMEUninstaller2, then reinstall CM10, then run the fix to increase the size of internal memory, and then restore your saved data, settings and the like. Only problem is those apps that were running from he SD card will no longer work and will have to be reinstalled from the PlayStore. Anything stored on the SD card like data and settings for those apps should be retained and should still work once the app in reinstalled.

There is one other thing you could try, if you have sufficient memory on the /media SD card available. J.C. Sullin's TouchPad Toolbox has the ability to move memory from the /media partition(volume) to the /data partition(volume). Read up on TouchPad Toolbox here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2756314

Keep in mind that you have to free up the memory you want to move first from /media and then install/move it to /data. Once done, you should be able to move all the apps on the SD card back to the internal memory/data volume and your SD card should stop dismounting.

WARNING: Before you try any of this, use recovery to make a nandroid backup and save a copy of the backup on your PC. That way if anything goes wrong, you will at least have a backup of everything that was working from internal memory.

The one thing you could try without the need for your PC is uninstall as many apps from the SD card as you can and hopefully the dismounting issue will go away. Otherwise, you are going to have to wait till you get back to your PC.

Good luck,

NT

PS I would post any further questions in the SD card issues thread. These idiots that are posting all this spam in this forum are pushing all unpinned posts off the first page.
