Mod Type:: Mod

Difficulty:: Moderate

Mod Status:: Alpha

Apply In:: ADB

Requires Root:: Yes

Source::
As it has been posted here, Qualcomm recently released Adreno 2XX drivers.

I have created this thread to share my method of installing them, and honestly I may be wrong. I'm no ROM developer. I believe I may have installed them correctly, but I truly have no way to tell. Please correct me if I'm wrong! I really just wanted to make this thread to see what others have found.

How to install
1. Download the tar of the drivers from Qualcomm- sorry you have to make an account.
You can find them here.

2. Put the tar on the root of your sdcard.

3. Remount /system as r/w
Method 1: Use an app such as Root Explorer
Method 2: Execute "adb remount", provided you have adb installed

4. Extract them with this command, either with ADB or Terminal Emulator.
tar -x -v -f /sdcard/Adreno* -C /

5. (Optional) Slight cleanup
The tar also contains two .txt files with the license. To remove them execute:
rm /system/*.txt

6. Reboot

In closing, please keep in mind I'm not even sure they're active. I might be completely off here. I encourage everyone to share their findings. :P

Qualcom released OFFICIAL driver binaries for the Adreno 2xx GPU for ICS, to allow upgrading of devices on that chipset to ICS without manufacturer support. I do not know personally, however, if it is an exact match for TP. Anyone?

If it ain't broke, you didn't overclock it enough.

Check out the wiki:http://en.wikipedia....stem_on_chip%29 specifically under GPU. Supposedly the drivers are for ANY 2xx GPU which does indeed include the Touchpad (which has the APQ8060).

Here is a flashable:
Adreno 2xx Flashable driver for CWM/TWRP
Make sure to backup your System in CWM or TWRP for easy recovery

A few impressions:
  • I noticed a fair increase in performance using the stock AOKP kernel (about 300 points in Antutu)
  • C2D seems to still be broken (pixelated video)
  • Does not seem to work on Bricked Kernel - everything gets very, very sluggish and would not even boot when I tried: debug.composition.type=c2d - Maybe it will work on CM9.

It does indeed flash fine on CM9, at least the 03/09 nightly. Running Antutu, will edit post once its done on whether its any faster.

Edit: not seeing any improvement from it.

How are you running the Antutu benchmark? Whenever I try to run the latest version, it crashes after the androids start flying around and doesn't give any results.

Not doing anything special, just running it as normal. Also pretty sure its the latest version, since I just installed it. Maybe it doesnt like your particular rom or kernel?

I installed it on my CM9 Alpha 2 touchpad and so far, I'm not seeing any improvement in UI homescreen rendering speed or in applications like the browser. Seems the same as pre-install.
