Kind of off topic but are any of you guys using apktool/manager on Linux to decompile? If so, how are you setting it up and where?

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using RootzWiki

should be able to just add apktool to your PATH$? right? I think, i dont think i've set up my apktool on my linux partition. I mostly use windows for this stuff. should be able to just add the path to your sdk. ~/android-sdk-linux/platform-tools then paste the apktool.jar and the .exe i think it is for linux in that folder. Then see if you cant
 apktool if framework-res.apk
to add framework resources.

I wasn't aware of a JB Mms with emoji. What rom is it from?

Anyways, back to your original questions.

JB introduced images for the sent and recv background. All you have to do is rename the sent.9.png and recv.9.png to their correct new image name.

Rename "sent.9.png" to "hairline_right.9.png"

Rename "recv.9.png" to "hairline_left.9.png"

Put those images in the Drawable-xhdpi folder, and you have bubbles.

How can I tell if it is JB or not? The problem is that there is no such file as sent9.png and recv9.png..i think the person who modiffied it deleted them. It is this one right here, can you take a look? Here is the apk. Thanks

Well, if its JB they may be using hariline_left.9.png and hairline_right.9.png as JB adds images for the backgrounds.

If its ICS, they may have used a different name for the bubbles. They are added in in ICS so you may have to search thru the files.

Ok thanks. Right now I'm using Mms JB 4.1.1 I changed everything and it worked except the background. The first screen that Mms opens to and the conversation. The background does not change at all, it is still white and i want them transparent. I also tried
@android:color/transparent and #00000000 but no luck

Here is the apk

Try editing the images called hairline_left.9.png and hairline_right.9.png, if you haven't done so already of course.
