Hey everyone!

I know this may not be the most popular app around, but with 4G, many people use the MyVerizon app. I saw a few reports of issues with MyVerizon on custom ROMs and decided to investigate. Installed MyVerizon and Verizon Login from the market. The app would not connect. Rebooted the phone. App worked, but the next time I tried to use it, would not connect again. Reboot fixed it again.

So... Since they were system apps on the stock ROM, why not try that? I threw a CWM flashable zip together to install them to /system/app/ and set permissions. Installed and it worked every time. Could not get it to fail to connect. A problem arose here though. The data use widget was nowhere to be found. Installed again, checked permissions and no luck. Then I went to the market to see if it would let me update it and sure enough it had an update showing, even though it was the same version, I installed it anyway. Back to the app drawer and there is the widget.

Edit: I added the VZWAPNLib and VZWAPNService to the zip since those files are needed for VerizonSSO to operate (de-compiled it and it calls for it right away). Some ROMs have those files on there already, but some do not so they are in the zip now so that they are installed either way.

So I am posting this here for anyone who wants to try it. The only thing it does is copy the four apps (MyVerizon.apk, VerizonSSO.apk, VZWAPNLib.apk and VZWAPNService.apk) to /system/app/ and set permissions appropriately to 0644 (rw-r--r--).

If you want to remove it you have to delete both apks from /system/app/ with root explorer or the like.

I am not responsible for anything that goes wrong such as:

Your girlfriend leaving you or
That sore on your lip <img src='http://rootzwiki.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/android/wink2.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

So, please do not blame me if something goes wrong. Ask here and I will try to help.

BACKUPS ARE YOUR FRIEND!

Edit: Updated install instructions below with new zip.

To install (AOKP, winner00's CM9 1/5 build and Redemption ROM 1.0.2 - see below):

1. Uninstall both MyVerizon and Verizon Login (VerizonSSO.apk) from the phone (both from /system/app/ and /data/app/ (may not be found in both, but if installed will be in one).
2. Flash zip in CWM. edit: new zip includes VZWAPNLib.apk and VZWAPNService.apk which are needed for VerizonSSO.apk to function. They were included in some ROMs, but not all. There is no need to delete them if they are already there.
3. Reboot
4. Go to Market and update MyVerizon as you should show an update available as long as your build.prop is not preventing you from seeing Verizon apps.
5. You should now have working MyVerizon!

6. Optionally, you should now be able to use the NFL Mobile from the market as well (not tested on all devices).

OLD - ONLY MyVerizon and VerizonSSO - Unless you need this for a reason, use the above link. http://www.multiupload.com/4MRQFO0TKS

I have not tested this on all ROMs available. I cannot guarantee it will work. I believe this should work now with most ROMs that have a build.prop that matches Verizon's official 4.0.2. This I am going to check this afternoon.

Please report back if you install it and it works or doesn't work and your ROM name and version.

Thanks!

Reported working on:

RootzBoat v6.1 & v7 "Greasy Gazelle" (added 1/22) (verified)
Redemption Rom (reported by user 'rumkeg')
GummyNex 0.4.2 (thanks chykal and 9kracing) -added 1/6- 0.4.8 (thanks hille141) -added 1/7-
AOKP - See below
winner00's CM9 Kang 1/3/12 version (thanks xRogerxC) -added 1/6
winner00's CM9 Kang 1/5/12 version - please follow alternative instructions below. -added 1/7-
Redemption ROM 1.0.2 - please follow alternative instructions below (thanks mikeinrichmond) -added 1/8-
Pete's Bugless Beast nightly 1/8/12 - please follow alternative instructions below (thanks dirtriding) -added 1/10-
CodeNameDroid 1.0.1 - please follow alternative instructions below - NFL Mobile not working though - (thanks Cheifkeiff) -added 1/12-

Reported not working:

Axiom 2.3 Axiom 2.4 should have all the files necessary included now and the correct build.prop settings and the dev reports it working.
GummyNex 0.3.8 Update: Should work with revised install instructions above now. 1/6/12

Alternative Method for ROMs that do not work with above method
ROMs Supported:

AOKP
winner00's CM9 Kang 1/5/12 Build
Redemption ROM 1.0.2
Pete's Bugless Beast nightly 1/8/12
CodeNameDroid 1.0.1

Instructions:

Download the zip and VerizonSSO.apk to your sdcard
Be sure that MyVerizon.apk and VerizonSSO.apk are uninstalled from both /data/app/ and /system/app/
Reboot to recovery
Install the zip from your sdcard
Reboot to the OS
After boot, open a file manager and find the VerizonSSO.apk. Tap to install it. If it asks to replace a system app, that is OK.
You should have working MyVerizon now!

To obtain widget: After above steps, go to market and search for My Verizon and install the update. You won't be prompted to update it.

Note: It is being reported that this does not survive a reboot on the ROMs that require this method. If this is the case, you just need to reinstall the verizonsso.apk from the file manager, which takes about 5 seconds, before use. That should remain until reboot.

MyVerizonSSO.apk

ROMs that are functional with the above methods should be able to utilize the NFL Mobile app in the market as well now.

Cool thanks, I was wondering how people had the usage app on custom roms...this will be very useful and i wish more devs cooked it into the rom. I believe i read that DT was going to do that with his next axiom release.

True that the app is there, but when installed from the market many people were having issues connecting (including me when I tested multiple times). When installed as a system app, I have had no issues myself or from others who tested on RootzBoat.

Just to see if I can understand the issue, what do you mean by no go? Did it install and just not open? FC? Fail to connect? I appreciate the information. Thanks!
