RootzReviews: Twitter Client Comparison

While there are many twitter clients available for Android, finding the right one for you can be a chore. Different developers have different ideas for what you need in your client, whether it's a very simple system to just read, tweet and reply, or a very feature-rich experience. We're going to run down 5 of our favorites for you, and let you decide what you think.1: Tweetcaster /Tweetcaster Pro Cost: Free version (ad supported) or Pro version for $4.99Easily the most pricey pro version of a Twitter client on the market, Tweetcaster pro offers a fairly simplistic approach to mobile Tweeting. If you don't mind an ad banner, Tweetcaster's free version is certainly worth a look. Tweetcaster performs very well on both phones and tablets, with the tablet view offering thumbnails of any attached images on individual tweets. While the interface may look fairly simplistic, Tweetcaster is loaded with a lot of very nice features that set it apart from other Twitter clie...

RootzReviews: LG Nitro HD

It's no secret that LG phones haven't exactly been a favorite among Android developers. In fact, it seems when asked, most people didn't even know the Nitro existed. But why? With its 720p IPS screen and dual core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon, this beast of a phone has specs that can contest pretty much any other phone on the market. So is it just a lack of marketing? Or is there just some underlying distaste for devices from the folks at LG? Well, we have one on hand, and we want to tell you all about it.Hardware: To put it bluntly, the Nitro is definitely one of the strange. Some of its aspects are pretty standard, and there are some that just make us wonder "why". The front is a solid glass panel from top to bottom, save for the slight border. Top center is the AT&T logo, just in case you forget what carrier you're on. Just to the right of the AT&T logo is the 1 megapixel front facing camera. Along the bottom are three capacitive buttons, and they're in...

RootzReviews: Task Changer Pro

If like many of us you’re used to hardware buttons, you might be slightly disorientated by Ice Cream Sandwich. Task Changer by Pacosal aims to remedy this by adding extra, permanent soft buttons to the borders of the screen of your device. While this may not sound like it solves the problem, it’s surprisingly effective and works very well. With fairly large customization options and more to come, we’ll take a look at Task Changer and what it offers. While Ice Cream Sandwich does provide some soft buttons, trying to use an Android tablet as a full fledged multitasking device can be awkward. By having buttons accessible at all times its far easier to navigate Android from full screen applications. You can have up to five extra buttons which can be set to any number of uses. We like to use: Bottom Right = Home Bottom Left = Back Upper Right = Menu Upper Left = A List of favourite apps Top = Notification Combined with the standard action bar built into Ice Cream Sandw...

Get Vocal: RootzWiki's Voice Recognition Roundup

One upon a time, when we were on the our phones and needed to know a phone number or recipe or the average rainfall in Zimbabwe we found the information by putting down our phone and picking up a phone book, encyclopedia, or newspaper. Then the day came where we had data connections and could navigate to a search page, type our queries in, and await a response. With recent advances in voice recognition technology, actually keying in searches and texts and even dialing a number are becoming passe; simply press a button or tap an icon, speak, and your answer will be provided in a matter of moments. With the sudden interest in voice search comes a huge boom in the number of voice search applications available. Some of these come from from established names such as Google and Nuance; others like Iris and Evi are relative newcomers to the game. In this article, we'll be taking a close look at the field of contenders for your voice search and command needs. Which ones are a hassle...

RootzReviews: Powerbag Deluxe Backpack

One of the most frustrating things to deal with is finding yourself out and about with a device that has no power left. For one reason or another, from accidental pocket dials to watching too many movies while on the treadmill at the gym, we've all found ourselves in the position of needing to make a call or send a text and not having enough battery left to complete the task. The solutions aren't necessarily that fun - either live tethered to a power outlet or USB port, or dial down your phone's settings so low that it may as well be off when you're not in range of a charger. A solution presented itself at this year's CES, and we've got it here to show you today. The Powerbag line is designed by Fūl to keep you and your devices on the go without having to keep you tethered to the wall. There are three different product categories - Backpack , Messenger Bag , and Briefcase - with three or four different product styles in each category. Each design, rangi...

RootzReviews: Owtsee

A short time ago, we introduced you to one of our developers , who goes by the handle ChildoftheHorn . In her real life, she's known as Stacy Devino . Stacy has created an application called AndroBox , showed you how to create your own Android Splash Screen , and helped you make an Android Business Card . Now she's back, in conjunction with SteV-O , with a new Android and iOS app called Owtsee , a web and mobile app that shows you what public resources are around you.http://youtu.be/kFaiRSaVXrMWe had the chance to preview Owtsee, and really liked what we saw. There are plenty of times you're looking at your friends, or your spouse, and you're bored. You just don't know what to do. You're stir crazy and need to get out of the house. But where to go? You might take to Google and start searching for public venues around you, but it's tough to sift through all the search results looking for just the right way to wile away the hours. That's where Owtsee co...

Kingston Wi-Drive Now Available for Android

Kingston is no foreigner when it comes to extra storage, and with an app now in beta for the Android Market, we can now take advantage of Kingston's Wi-Drive; a portable, wireless flash storage device. We've had a chance to play with one, and here's what we think. Here at RootzWiki, we believe there's no such thing as too much storage. When we heard that the Kingston Wi-Drive was going to provide a wireless storage solution for mobile devices, we were super excited! Sadly enough, the excitement lasted for all of two seconds after we noticed that is was only for iOS (you can start booing now). Needless to say, our hearts collectively sank. Things have started to look up for us in the android community with the introduction of a beta app for the Android market. Looks like we can now finally have the wireless storage we crave.Hardware The Wi-Drive is sleek. That's really the only way to put it. It's piano black, and it has the curves you expect from a mobil...

RootzReviews: gMusic Sniper

If you're not a fan of the standard Google Music app, but do like the Google Music cloud service, gMusic Sniper from r2doesinc is the tool for you. With it you can make your offline Google Music selection playable with 3rd party apps like Winamp , DoubleTwist or Power Amp .The first note about gMusic Sniper is that you will need BusyBox properly installed on a rooted device. gMusic Sniper does have options for non-rooted devices. Unfortunately, while we at Rootzwiki try our best to test applications across all ROMs and devices, we don’t actually have a device that isn’t rooted, and we doubt that, if you’re reading this, you do either.http://rootzwiki.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_rel_module=ccs&attach_id=14806 Upon opening the app you’ll notice an Ice Cream Sandwich inspired color scheme. The interface is simple and every option is available through one place and it’s unlikely you’ll get confused. The top half of the interface exam...
