TSF Shell Launching on Leap Day

Home replacement apps are a dime a dozen these days. Most tend to replicate and then attempt to slightly improve on their predecessors, causing many custom launchers to behave quite similar to each other minus a transition effect or two. TSF Shell Pro 3D is not your typical home replacement application however. This launcher brings some incredibly unique features to the table, many of them are sure to make the Android fanboy inside you go ballistic. Even better news, TSF has announced that they will finally be gracing a device near you starting February 29th.Using a custom launcher is one of the quickest and easiest ways to change the UI experience on your phone and TSF's (The Special Forces) latest project definitely switches things up. Some of the unique features in TSF Shell include a Lasso Tool, Quick Screen Switcher, 3D Widgets, Folder Boxes, Quick Launch Bar, TSF Store and more. Check out the super short (see: 9 freaking minutes) trailer below to check out these great feat...

New ICS Easter Eggs: This Time in Chrome

While the ICS easter egg in the Calendar widget was a little funny and a little clever, you can feel free to file at least one of the following Chrome easter eggs in the "holy crap that is a lot of work for kind of not much of a reward" pile. That's right, there are two surprises to be found in Google's beta Chrome browser. Feel free to argue their usefulness in the comments section. The first, and most simple little piece of graphical fun is in the "show all tabs" section of the browser. If you have at least one tab open, click on the button that shows all open tabs. Swipe up five times (go ahead and try now if you like). The tabs will all flip around showing the chrome logo on the back like a set of Google Chrome-branded playing cards. Fun right? The second easter egg is also related to tabs, but is a little more labor intensive. Open up 100 tabs, yes, 100 (btw, it will take you about 3-4 minutes to do so). Once you reach the 100 ta...

After seemingly endless development, British media giant Sky has finally added the first version of Sky Go to their selection of Android applications. Allowing you to watch 22 of Sky’s live channels, the application currently only works on a handful of Samsung and HTC devices, none of which can run Ice Cream Sandwich or, more importantly, be rooted.Clearly trying to make an impact on the most popular devices, Sky only supports the top selling Android devices (none of them tablets):http://rootzwiki.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_rel_module=ccs&attach_id=18394 HTC DesireHTC Desire SHTC Desire HDHTC IncredibleHTC SensationSamsung Galaxy SSamsung Galaxy S IIWhile we’re sure that we’ll be seeing more device support further down the road and eventually Ice Cream Sandwich support, it seems unlikely that Sky will repent on the decision not to support rooted devices. Like all media platforms, Sky Go is bogged down in some serious licensing issues....

The Rootz community loves our developers. We rock their themes, flash their ROMs, and love to download their latest apps. We have a great bunch of devs here, and when they publish something new, we want everyone to know about it. Today we're bringing you an essential app for those of you rocking a library on Google Music, from the always-colorful R2DoesInc . The creator of Rom Crawler and Poke Pro is back with an awesome new app called Cloud Music Sniper .If you have a nice, big library of tunes on Google Music, you have probably noticed that there are some restrictions on when and where you can play that music. It's all well and good to have a bunch of songs, but when you go to play them you're limited to Google's official Music app. The Music app is alright for basic use, but it lacks a lot of the more advanced options of other music players for Android. A lot of us prefer apps like WinAMP or the new CM9 Music Player. The problem is that these apps can't acce...

Still Waiting on Instagram? Here are Some Alternatives

So, popular iPhone app, Instagram, may or may not be coming to an Android device near you. Either way, while you wait patiently for the chance to take a sepia-ed picture of the stop sign outside your apartment and pass it off as art on Facebook, there are plenty of apps available in the Market that will be Instagram’s main competitors once they do or do not come to the party. The fun part is that you can use these right now. Most offer seamless social media integration (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Google+). Others boast the ability to edit not just recently taken photos, but pictures from your Gallery. But after playing with all the apps on this list, a standout is Pudding Camera . It may have a silly name, but this app has so many features that you may use it not just to shop photos, but you may decide to replace the stock Android camera with it for all your mobile device photographic needs.
Utter! Virtual Assistant Features Deep 3rd Party Apps Integration

In the ever-growing world of virtual assistants, we have some total flops and some shining stars. Each of these assistant apps has its strengths, and its weaknesses, and each differentiates itself from the others in several ways. Utter! is looking to set itself apart through its use of all those 3rd party apps on your device. XDA Developer Brandall is a UK bloke with a passionate dislike for Siri, and it shows when you ask Utter! what it's opinion of Siri is. But you'll have to watch the video for that. We won't give it away for free. But what makes Utter! different from the myriad other virtual assistant apps on the market?First, Utter is not yet on the market. It's a work in progress, which the developer has showcased in a whopping 22 minute video that takes you through only some of Utter!'s features. Utter! also has an exclamation point in the name, and that alone is probably worth the download, right? Maybe not. What really sets Utter...

Visualize for the moment. You currently have three Words with Friends (or Wordfeud ) games on your queue. One of them is against a friend you've played against numerous times that just texted you he’s going away for the weekend and won’t have access to cell service or Wi-Fi (God forbid!) for a few days. Another is against as inconsistent a player as the weather is right now in the Midwest: they go 32 hours without playing a word one week, yet one night play 6 words between the hours of 4 a.m. and 6 a.m. The last person you are playing against you are pretty sure is cheating: they swap tiles with you constantly and always seem to find the right word you’ve never heard of right on top of the Triple Word Score.Because of the lull in the action between your friend’s hiatus, the lollygagger's time MIA, and the fact that you are sick of losing by 200 points to someone probably using Word Breaker , you need a new game. Download 7 Little Words right now. Do it. http://roo...

Google's has been pouring a lot of work into their TV systems over the last year, after a lackluster introduction of the device running on Android 2.1. Since the release, we've seen some minor patches, which eventually culminated in a much larger update of Honeycomb for Google TV. But the GTV surge is far from over. After losing Logitech as a hardware partner for the systems, Google went on to pick up several more hardware partners, namely LG, Vizio, and Lenovo. Many of the new systems were on display at this year's CES , and they looked very good. These were integrated systems, rather than set-top boxes. Boxes aren't completely out of the picture, though. Sony has a couple of updated Blu-Ray boxes on the horizon, set for a release later this year. The new devices are slimmer, faster, and running the latest GTV software. [sharedmedia=core:attachments:17569][sharedmedia=core:attachments:17572]Yesterday, Google's TV Facebook page teased that this mor...

While our developers try to do their best to relay information in ways that us laymen can understand, it's not always enough to solve your problems. There's many times that you run up against a problem that you're just not equipped to handle. Maybe you've followed the guide to the letter, but you still managed to brick your device, or mess up some other detail. You could swear it told you to wipe your cache and data, but you were supposed to do it before you flashed the new kernel. Now your Android is suddenly demanding that you take it to meet its "homies" in a dark alley off 89th street. What did you do wrong!?It's for situations just like this that Root-Ed has been invented.
Popular remote coding service Codeanywhere is great for the programmer on the run, or for working from a number of browsers. However, the native Android app has never been great for tablets, where one would expect to do most of your Android coding. A new release has now been published, which brings the power of Codeanywhere to Honeycomb .Though Ice Cream Sandwich is the new kid on the block, there are still a huge number of Android tablets out there running Honeycomb, so this new release is not all that late to the party. We have tested it, and it is able to run on Ice Cream Sandwich tablets, as well. The Honeycomb version of Codeanywhere has all of your favorite features, including the ability to connect to FTP servers and edit PHP files. In addition, you can expect the following feature set:Code editor for Android Honeycomb feature list: PHP Editor, HTML Editor, CSS Editor, Javascript Editor, XML Editor.
If you're a flashaholic with a Samsung phone, you've likely become very familiar with the desktop ODIN tool that provides extremely specific and granular control of the flashing process.
Google Voice: Now With More ICS

A bit of pleasant— albeit minor— news for a dreary Tuesday afternoon: Google has released an update to the official Google Voice app, bringing with it some much needed ICS related improvements. First a beta of Chrome for Android , and now this?! Today is a great day for Ice Cream Sandwhich users. While most of the changes are cosmetic, there is a handy new feature for tablet users. The update brings with it a new icy icon, as well as some minor design changes meant to bring it more in line with Ice Cream Sandwich. As you can see from the screenshots below, the app is now using the "Holo UI With Dark Action Bar" Theme. Also included is an option for tablet users to dial a phone number from their tablet. Google Voice will ring whichever phone you select, or even your Gmail account if you prefer, and connect you after. It's not quite "call from your tablet", but it's close.All-in-all, the changes are extremely minor, but a definite step in the right dire...

Dropbox, the number one name in mobile cloud storage, and an increasingly necessary desktop tool, has begun offering an experimental beta v.2.0.9 to the public for testing. The beta comes with a feature similar to Google +, which they call Automatic Camera Upload. While this kind of feature is available in some 3rd party Dropbox apps already, it's good to see that the official version has taken note and added it in. There are also some other new features of the latest Dropbox. The app can now auto-upload videos, as well as photos, from your camera in the background over wifi or data connections. Size limits on uploads have been eliminated, so you'll be able to upload larger files without compression now. Uploads that are interrupted due to network downtime will now be resumed when the connection is sound again. Performance has been enhanced, and some bugs have been fixed.
We've already covered Boot Manager here at RootzWiki, but if that wasn't enough to whet your appetite, Init2Winit, also known as GFlam and Conap have just released a lite version of their increasingly popular ROM swapping app. While we wouldn’t necessarily report on an app release like this, Boot Manager is such a time saver for developers that it’s definitely worth checking out. It allows you to easily swap quickly between installed ROMs and saves a considerable amount of time. No long winded backups required. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-kfNwF29o6k4/Tys2Ze31bzI/AAAAAAAAAzU/OENtlHWorKY/s512/unnamed.jpg The lite version allows two ROMs to be swapped between (where as the full version can do as many as you need) and is great for testing complete compatibility with your device before going for the Pro version, as support is sketchy in some areas.
The power of root is growing daily, with developers taking advantage of the privileges granted by taking full control of their devices. One thing that's always been lacking though, is the ability to host "guest" accounts on an Android device. Now, that ability is available with a new app called SwitchMe. Desktops and laptops have always been able to make use of this feature, and for the security conscious it's practically a must-have. Allowing family or friends to have their own private workspace on a device can provide both peace of mind, as well as flexibility depending on your use case.Take for example tablets in schools. This has been a growing trend over the last year, with more and more schools buying up tablets to replace textbooks, or to compliment in-class learning. Buying a tablet for every student can get pricey, though. Then there's the problem of keeping each student's preferences and files separate. Android has always allowed you to use multiple...
