How to Change Your Soft Keys

I love Android because you can change almost everything. Case in point, the ICS soft keys can be changed on the Galaxy Nexus. I have modified mine using Zip Themer by Ken Ellinwood . With this tool you can change the look of the buttons by running the app and flashing a zip file through Rom Manager. Obligatory disclaimer: You are responsible for any consequences resulting from tweaking, rooting, or modifying your phone or tablet. If something out of the ordinary happens we can’t guarantee that it can be undone. Neither RootzWiki nor the developers associated with the contained mods are in any way liable for anything that happens beyond this point. Over in our forums atticus182 has a great thread with a collection of soft keys for downloading and complete instructions. Essentially you install Zip Themer from the market. Next, you need to download the soft key collection that you like to your phone SD card. Once that is done, open the app and click the menu button (three dots a...

Featured Theme: Chopper's Mashup (AOKP)

Theme: Chopper's Mashup (one of the “Chopper’s Old Friends” themesROM: AOKP Milestone 4, builds 28, 30-32Themer: chopper the dogThread: http://rootzwiki.com...us-apexbrowser/ Background If you have grown weary of the holo blue color scheme of stock ICS, this theme is for you. While most themes either have at least a fair amount of holo blue in them or are a recoloring of the holo scheme, chopper the dog has eliminated nearly all traces of holo blue, and his theme contains significant graphic design work. It's obvious that he has put a great deal of effort into designing this theme. Before I go into more details about this theme, allow me to give you some background on the themer himself. Chopper the dog has been in the rooting/modding community longer than Android itself, having been a member of XDA back when Windows Mobile was a dominant smartphone OS. I first knew him from the Fascinate community, for which he designed Gingerbread versions of the Mashup and Honeycombish, a...

How To Tweak Your CM9 Notification Bar for Extra Toggles

Your notification bar and you. You have a great relationship. If you're running CM9, you have an even better one! One of the things we love best about the way the CM team does the notification bar is the quick toggles for various functions. If you're looking to add even more functionality to your notification bar, though, this tweak is certainly for you. That is, if you're using one of the devices listed below. Developer rob43 has released instructions on how to add some extra kick to your bar for these devices. The original method was devised by rob43 for the Galaxy Nexus. However, it has been shown to work for the following other devices, as well:LG Optimus OneSamsung Galaxy S, GSII, Nexus SMotorola Defy, AtrixWe think you'll agree that all the extra toggles are a great feature for any device, and we're hoping that they find a permanent home in CM9. So, what's changed by this tweak?Centered clockModified notification layoutSeparate tabs for quick toggle...

New Animation Frameworks from thepsyntyst!

Forum member thepsyntyst has been working on making the Android experience a little flashier. His increasing set of framework animation modifications really add an extra level of pizazz to navigating around Android. The first set of framework animations are modified versions of the stock set, but thepsyntyst is hard at work at some totally original animations with one already available. The animation sets can be installed via a standard zip flash, MetaMorph , ROM Toolbox Pro ,but the easiest way is to use ZipThemer . It should be possible to install these on any phone running any ROM, but as per usual there is always a risk that bad things can happen , that Rootzwiki and its members take no responsibility for. http://youtu.be/WpvpNiJDpbwLike all good things, you’ll need a rooted device for this. Here’s the Zip Themer Method: Please read the whole instructions before you start, don’t continue if you are unsure. Install ZipThemer Pick...

Here at RootzWiki, we're all about Android discovery. We love to help users learn to use the full potential of these amazing devices; the keyword there being learn. One of the big appeals of the Android rooting community is the ability to customize and make our devices our own with the use of themes. Even though our forums are loaded with developers willing to help the themers of the world, sometimes asking for help can make one feel, well, like an idiot. RootzWiki Developer ehoba understands your fears however and he's crafted one awesome tool to help noobs and veterans alike master the art of theming, meet IDIOT. IDIOT, or If Droids Insist On Themes , is theme building and theme porting made for those who love to theme their devices. This unique tool doesn't help the user create images but rather allows the user to rip and/or add png images to and from apk, making altering system and application images incredibly user friendly. Building your own theme or porting one ha...
