CyanogenMod Team Requests Donations

The world's most downloaded custom ROM, CyanogenMod, is a massive project that involves tons of developers. To make sure the ROM works on as many devices as possible, the CM team buys up devices for its developers, but also needs huge amounts of computing power to compile nightly builds for all of these devices. And that can cost money. In a move that's never been seen before, the CM team has placed a humble request for some donations to continue their work. If you're a CM user that lives on the bleeding edge, downloading every new nightly build, you may have noticed that the frequency of nightlies has decreased. According to the team, the current hardware they're using is no longer able to handle all the builds for 50+ devices every night. And it's those nightly builds that are one of the most popular attractions for CM users. Thus, they have put out a public call for financial aid . Even if you're not a CM user, there's a few good reasons for you to dona...

Breaking News: Google Still Recognizes CDMA Galaxy Nexus, will Continue to Update

Earlier today, a story broke across the internet that the Verizon Galaxy Nexus ("Toro") had been delisted by Google as an official developer device. In the hours since, there has been an outpouring of concern from the owners and developers of Verizon's only pure Google Experience device. As more and more information was found, it was discovered that Big Red wasn't the only victim of this decision; Google has delisted all CDMA devices as developer units. This is certainly a blow to the ego of CDMA AOSP-ites everywhere, as we're now at the mercy of carriers once again for official updates we expected to come straight from Google. We'll start with Google's latest statement, taken from the Android Contributors Google Group :A quick look at the device table at the AOSP site also shows no sign of Toro, Crespo4G, or the CDMA Xoom. The same omission also appears in the Binaries list on the Google Code website, although the WiFi-only Xoom does appear here.Ul...

Qualcomm Announces New Chips, App And Developer Platform

Qualcomm have had a busy couple of days. They’ve released their lineup for the next generation of processor architectures, announced a new app to help Android gamers find games for their Snapdragon based devices and shown off their new development platform giving a demonstration of the tablets of next year. Check out the full story after the break. Based on the Krait branded processors the new chips have single, dual and quad core variants. The MSM8960 (catchy name!) is the fastest of the bunch running with a dual core 1.5GHz and two LPDDR2 channels running at 500MHz. Currently it looks like there won’t be much competing at the same level until later next year so expect to see these chips around a lot. So that we don't have to memorize the codename of every chip Qualcomm have come up with a handy naming convention to keep us all straight: http://rootzwiki.com/uploads/monthly_11_2011/ccs-17117-0-87918800-1321646491.jpg In a move that might disappoint some Qualcomm have...

Google Music App Launches for Google TV

Yesterday, Google announced that their music service has left the invitation-only Beta and that it will integrate with the music store on Android Market to make music discovery, purchase, and sharing easy and fast. Well, guess what? We now have the same service available on Google TV. It's pretty simple. Download the Google Music app for Google TV from the Android Market, login with your account, and enjoy your entire music library through your HDTV and home theater system. The app syncs with your existing Google Music account, so there is no need to stream from a computer or download songs to the TV. Thanks to the recent update to Honeycomb, the app takes full advantage of multi-tasking and can play in the background while you enjoy other apps. You can also add a custom soundtrack to slideshows from the Photos app, which after playing around with... is somewhat of a novelty, but could come in handy if you're the sentimental type. If you haven't already signed...

2011 Xperia Line to get ICS

Since the ICS source just dropped yesterday, most have been wondering if his or her device is going to be one of the lucky ones to get Google’s newest version of Android. Sony-Ericsson has stepped up and recently announced that their 2011 lineup of Xperia devices will be upgradeable to Ice Cream Sandwich. This includes the Xperia Arc (pictured)/Arc S, Xperia Play, Xperia Mini/Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, Xperia Active, Xperia Neo/Neo V, Xperia Ray, and the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman. No additional details have been provided in regards to timing and availability of the upgrade. But, this is all very good news considering the stance Sony-Ericsson has taken (in comparison to other manufacturers) recently in facilitating the availability of AOSP firmware for their devices.via Sony-Ericsson
