Samsung TecTiles Arrive

How do you use your NFC feature? Just from the stock phone experience, you can use Google Wallet, Android Beam, and NFC Tags. However, it is likely the average consumer with a NFC enabled device might not know what a NFC tag is or how to use it. NFC Tags have been used for quite some time but Samsung is making it “main stream”. They are providing everything a consumer needs from direct sale of the tags to simplifying the programming process with a free Android app.

NFC tags (in the form of stickers or wristbands, for example) contain small microchips with little aerials which can store a small amount of information for transfer to another NFC device such as a mobile phone. The microchip can include intents (Send text messages, Change Settings, etc.) or basic information; it all depends how you use it.

Samsung has begun selling the TecTiles in packs of 5 for $14.99 through their online store. You will soon be able to find them in-store through AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile stores for the same price. Per unit, they are on the pricey end but if you want something “hassle free” these are something to consider. What makes these tags special is the fact they are re-writable up to 1000x. Samsung includes a free application called Samsung TecTiles that helps you program these tags with your NFC enabled device. The user interface & steps provided make the process simple to use.

Even though these TecTiles can be used by any NFC enabled smartphone, it is Samsung’s way to show what its new baby the Samsung Galaxy S3 can do; it would be nice if they would include a couple of these TecTiles with your purchase of a SGS3. Is $14.99 to much for 5 NFC Tags? How would you use these TecTiles to simplify your day?
