Windy is an augmented reality game that was announced by Motorola. The game is coming on October 29 th and it brings with it a very interesting design aesthetic, the brain child of Jan Pinkava. Jan released a short film (below) at a recent Qualcomm conference entitled “Windy Day”. Windy Day made use of a technology called OpenSubDiv which was designed by Pixar Studios of Toy Story fame. OpenSubDiv is a method of real-time GPU rendering which, interestingly enough, comes from years of collaboration between Microsoft Research and Pixar.
What the video below will show you is a bunch of people using Moto X phones and not much else but near the end you will catch a few glimpses of what appears to be a game using some pretty cool-looking animated characters and settings. Not much else is known about Windy at this time other than the fact that it appears to be a Moto X exclusive. I suppose we’ll all know more on October 29th. For now you can check out the video below.
