HTC rumored to release a 5-inch superphone this Fall (the One XXL?)

Big and tall HTC users should get ready to open their wallets, while those of you with small hands might want to pass on this device - DigiTimes just leaked a rumor that HTC is planning to release its own 5-inch superphone this Fall. The device should rival Samsung's Galaxy Note (and likely the Galaxy Note 2) in the market for phones tailored to those who can palm a basketball. Meanwhile, iPhone users can look forward to a (cough cough) 4-inch display the upcoming iPhone 5 (which means Apple won't have much of a "look and feel" case against HTC this time). This may be the HTC One XXL that has long been rumored for Verizon (AT&T, Sprint, and T-Moblie would no doubt be getting their own variants).

So what specs will this new superphone be packing? The latest rumors from Android Police and Phandroid seem to indicate the following:
  • ***Buzzkill Alert*** Instead of the quad-core Snapdragon processor previously rumored for the One XXL, the GLBenchmark test mentioned by Android Police indicates the dual-core S4 (still, this processor ran neck-and-neck with the quad-core Tegra 3, so it's no weakling).
  • 1796x1080 resolution (does the 1796 look strange? 1920 vertical pixels minus 126 for the ICS softkeys should answer that question). This means that, for the purpose of watching videos, you'll get the full 1080p experience and the appropriate 16:9 aspect ratio due to the softkeys being hidden during video playback.
  • A capacitive stylus (think the Scribe pen from the HTC Flyer tablet)
  • A new Adreno 320 GPU (again, indicated by the GLBenchmark test) - this, combined with the Snapdragon S4, should be more than up to the task of pushing those 1080p pixels. Those of you who are fascinated by benchmarks and graphics performance should check this article out for more information about this new GPU.
