Max Moss
Max took the dive into the Android scene back when he exchanged his Motorola Razr for an OG Droid back in 2010. From there, he started avidly keeping up with all of the latest Android news and development. However, it wasn't until later that year when he got a Droid X that he really started to get into the ROMing scene. His first ROM, FlyX by Birdman, still holds a special place in his heart.

Last year, he started his own Android blog, Android Allies. This went well for a while, but now Android Allies is inactive and Max devotes his Android writing to good ol' RootzWiki. Now, with Galaxy Nexus in pocket and Nexus 7 in hand, he strives to bring all the newest ROM news straight to the readers.

A Handful of New Motorola Devices Get Root

As I've said time and time again, one of my favorite things about Android is root access. With root you can do all kinds of great things that weren't possible without root. Really, nothing warms my heart like seeing a bunch of phones get root access, and my heart warmed this morning when I read that a whole slew of Motorola phones got root access from Djrbliss.

This makes me happy for a couple reasons. Firstly, I've been waiting since the middle of summer for a use for this picture that I took in a school I was working at. Second, I got my start on Android with Motorola phones. The original Droid was my first Android phone and the Droid X followed it. Had it not been for the locked bootloader, perhaps I would still have a Motorola phone.

Enough about me. I'm sure you just want to know how to root your phones. So far, it is said that this exploit works for the Droid Razr HD, the Droid Razr M, the Razr I, the Atrix HD, and the Photon Q. This will probably also work on the Droid Razr Maxx HD, as Motorola tends to use similar software on their phones and they all have the same exploits. The post gives pretty straight forward instructions:

  • Download and extract the entire zip file.
  • Ensure your device is connected via USB and that you have installed the latest ADB drivers from Motorola.
  • Double-click "run.bat" and FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. The exploit will ask you to press a button combination at one point.

You can grab that .zip file here, and if you have any questions you can also ask them there.

If you have one of these phones, get to rooting! I know you aren't on Rootzwiki for gardening advice.
