About The Author
Max Moss
Max took the dive into the Android scene back when he exchanged his Motorola Razr for an OG Droid back in 2010. From there, he started avidly keeping up with all of the latest Android news and development. However, it wasn't until later that year when he got a Droid X that he really started to get into the ROMing scene. His first ROM, FlyX by Birdman, still holds a special place in his heart.

Last year, he started his own Android blog, Android Allies. This went well for a while, but now Android Allies is inactive and Max devotes his Android writing to good ol' RootzWiki. Now, with Galaxy Nexus in pocket and Nexus 7 in hand, he strives to bring all the newest ROM news straight to the readers.

Team Kang Releases AOKP JB MR1 Build 3

As we all eagerly wait for Big G to drop some 4.2.2 goodness on us, we can take comfort in knowing that the guys at Team Kang are always turning out great stuff for us to play with. Today, they pushed Build 3 of their take on Android 4.2.1 out to the masses. The new features and new devices will surely be having you do the backup-wipe-and-flash dance that we all know so well.

A few new devices have been added for this release. Those devices include the Acer Iconia Tab A510, the T-Mobile Galaxy S2, and the LTE Galaxy Note 2. The two versions of the international Galaxy S2 (i9100 & i9100g) will be getting builds tomorrow due to some bug that needed to be squashed.

Here are the shiny new features you can expect to find:

General UI
  • UI mode selector – Phone / Phablet / Tablet
  • Transparency control for all the things!
  • Dual panel at any DPI
  • Car Home is back
Lockscreen
  • Allow timeout / instant lock for Slide
  • Quick unlock (PIN/password can unlock without pressing enter)
Navigation Bar
  • Hiding NavBar – if you enable this, NavBar won’t be visible all the time, you can slide up from the bottom of your screen and it comes back!
  • Recents – GB style
  • Custom icon tint
  • Menu UI overflow
Statusbar
  • LastApp Toggle
Yes, yes, the forbidden tablet UI is back! As much as Google would rather we use the split layout like on the Nexus 10, Team Kang has given you the choice to have the combined layout that shipped with Honeycomb. If that isn't you style, you can always just hide the navbar completely and go into a full screen mode. Then, if you need the navbar, just swipe up in the little area it shows you and your navbar will pop up. Pretty cool, if you ask me.

Check out the full release from Team Kang here and grab it while it's hot! I haven't been able to test build 3 out just yet because I've been in class, but if you have, let me know how it is!
