About The Author
Max Moss
Max took the dive into the Android scene back when he exchanged his Motorola Razr for an OG Droid back in 2010. From there, he started avidly keeping up with all of the latest Android news and development. However, it wasn't until later that year when he got a Droid X that he really started to get into the ROMing scene. His first ROM, FlyX by Birdman, still holds a special place in his heart.

Last year, he started his own Android blog, Android Allies. This went well for a while, but now Android Allies is inactive and Max devotes his Android writing to good ol' RootzWiki. Now, with Galaxy Nexus in pocket and Nexus 7 in hand, he strives to bring all the newest ROM news straight to the readers.

AOKP releases JellyBean MR1 Build 2

About three weeks ago, Team Kang dropped us their first build of Android 4.2. It's been a long three weeks, but now they have released a second build that includes more features, more devices, and more unicorns than you can shake your official limited edition Harry Potter wand at. In this build the Kangers have added the GSM Nexus 7, the Nexus 10, and US variants of the Galaxy S3. This brings the total supported list to the following:
  • maguro – Galaxy Nexus (GSM)
  • toro – Galaxy Nexus (Verizon)
  • grouper – Nexus 7 (WiFi)
  • mako – Nexus 4
  • manta – Nexus 10
  • tilapia – Nexus 7 (GSM)
  • d2xxx – Galaxy S3 US variants
If you don't see the GS3 variants just yet, they will be posted throughout the day. The full download list and available mirrors are available on AOKP.co.

What has the team of Unicorns been up to for the past few weeks? They've added a ton of awesome features, and some of them make me want to ditch my current ROM to check it out. Here's a list of everything they have added:

General UI
  • Boot animation picker enhancements
  • Colorable clock views/widgets
Lockscreen
  • Option to hide initial page hints
  • Start lockscreen with minimized challenge
  • Longpress on minimized challenge to unlock
  • Carousel animation
Navigation Bar
  • Colorable NavBar background
  • Recents menu opens with lightning speed
Statusbar
  • Alternative signal layout (GB-style)
  • New toggle: Sound state (ring/vib/silent)
  • Mobile technology indicator reflects internet connection status
Camera
  • Powerkey shutter
Phone
  • Call statistics
Other Fixes and Optimizations
  • Check them all out here.
The team has reported issues with the RAM bar in the recent apps menu and a bug with hiding the white box hints on the lockscreen when using the carousel animation. Those are minor things that really shouldn't hinder your experience.

Let us know what you think. Have fun and happy flashing!
