About The Author
Max Moss
Max took the dive into the Android scene back when he exchanged his Motorola Razr for an OG Droid back in 2010. From there, he started avidly keeping up with all of the latest Android news and development. However, it wasn't until later that year when he got a Droid X that he really started to get into the ROMing scene. His first ROM, FlyX by Birdman, still holds a special place in his heart.

Last year, he started his own Android blog, Android Allies. This went well for a while, but now Android Allies is inactive and Max devotes his Android writing to good ol' RootzWiki. Now, with Galaxy Nexus in pocket and Nexus 7 in hand, he strives to bring all the newest ROM news straight to the readers.

AOKP Releases Build 5; Reports of Unicorn Sightings Skyrocket

Fire up your Kangerators, because the AOKP team has released their fifth Jelly Bean build. This build, which has been merged with Android 4.1.2, brings new features and a few new supported devices to the ROM. So, if you were like me and were feeling lonely because you weren't at the Big Android BBQ, hopefully this will cheer you up.

The new build brings a couple of new and old features to the ROM. Here's a list of the added features:

  • Custom NavBar for Tablets
  • NavBar widgets are back from ICS
  • Highly customizable Lockscreen Ring targets, with a shiny new editor in ROMControl! (also thanks to CM for the base of the framework part)
  • Alternate default app picker (like in GB)
  • Menu UI Overflow Toggle
  • Option to disable vibration for Notification expansion
  • RAM Bar in the Recents panel
  • Timeout and instant lock options for Slide lock
  • VPN Traffic amount in human readable format

If you haven't gotten the chance to use the Kangerator yet, now's the perfect time. It downloaded pretty quickly for my Galaxy Nexus and I'm flashing the ROM as I write this. Unless you have unlocked the app and have chosen a different place for the ROM to download to, it will be in your downloads folder. The only reason I say this is because it took me a bit to find it.

As for new devices supported, the team has picked up the AT&T variants of Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note. The AOKP team has also said that they will be working with the guys over at CyanogenMod to submit their features back to the CyanogenMod source.

All the builds should be up by now, so check Kangerator or the AOKP website for your device and get to flashing!
