Are you looking to protect your Nexus 7, maybe from your kids’ destructive powers or in case are you a bit clumsy (like me)? If so, Seidio has you covered. The Seidio Active case brings their well-known two-layer case to the Nexus 7. Is the Seidio Active case really a perfect case solution for the Nexus 7, or does it totally take away from the svelte tablet?
Like all variants of the Seidio Active cases for smartphones and tablets, the Nexus 7 model is a two-layer case that consists a polymer interior casing enclosed by a hard shell exoskeleton. The design has been highly reliable in my experience, as it provides two layers of protection on every corner of your device. There is a noticeable increase in both thickness & weight, which is to be expected with this level of expected protection. The additional thickness is not a deal breaker for me has it does provide great protection and the design & materials used makes it even easier to hold your Nexus 7. The additional weight is my only major concern. It is noticeable enough to cause fatigue after long usage, while before (case-less) it was not an issue.
The case provides a significant amount of protection from the perils of every day life as well as the unexpected non-catastrophic (but still unnerving) accidents that happen from time to time. The polymer interior case works as expected with shock absorbing - which is to say, very well - and protecting against accidental nicks or scratches. The polymer case doubles as a great source of grip along the edges. The cutouts for the ports are spot-on, allowing for full functionality and zero obstruction of the speaker. The hard shell exoskeleton brings it all together to provide the total package, adding rigidity and holding the inner polymer layer firmly in place. The design of the case allows the hard shell to protect every corner and solidifying the case together for a snug fit, plus it can take on some nice impacts.
Seidio's cases tend to be very monochromatic and with very little graphic artistry; the Active Case is no exception. There is a nice palette of exoskeleton colors to choose from to add some visual pop and individuality to your device.
The Active case can be purchased alone or be bundled up with the Multi-Purpose cover. I highly recommend getting to total bundle for maximum protection and the additional feature of sturdy cover with some especially useful built-in options. If you're not just setting the cover aside or snapping it onto the back of the Nexus 7 while using your tablet, it can also act as multi-angle stand . The Nexus 7 has been marketed as a media device and we all know it is easier to enjoy our media when we do not have to hold our device. The stand brings 10 different viewing angles in both landscape and portrait for all our viewing pleasures. The cover includes non-slip pads to prevent movement when in stand is in use. Like the polymer case, these non-slip pads are dust magnets so you will find yourself cleaning these parts more than usual. The stand itself looks simple and can be snapped on/off easily. Between using it as a daily case and liberally abusing it for the purposes of this review, the cover has held up to very heavy usage without becoming loose while acting as a cover and maintains its sturdiness as a stand. This thing is built for extended usage and long-term durability.
After my time with this Seidio Active Case with the Multi-Purpose cover, I can highly recommend this case to all Nexus 7 owners. This case is great for those that are looking for layers of protection, travelers, those with kids, and media heavy folks that want enjoy their media hands free. Seidio has the case priced at $34.95 and the bundle priced at $44.95 (same prices on Amazon).
