Galaxy S3 Name Unpacked?
Keywords in the Play Store’s description for the Samsung Unpacked 2012 app suggest that “the next Galaxy” will be named the “Galaxy S3” (note the Arabic numeral instead of the Roman numeral - a departure from Samsung’s naming scheme for the 2nd generation of Galaxy S devices).
Ceramic Back?
A tipster named eldarmurtazin sent an instagram of what might be the back of the new device, possibly indicating a ceramic backing.
If you’ll observe the light reflection on the bottom right, it is not the smooth, clear reflection one would expect from a glossy plastic surface, as on most previous Galaxy S devices. In fact, it looks more like the slightly dulled reflection one might expect from a ceramic surface. Obviously, an Instagram is hardly acceptable evidence, and this picture could have been taken from one of many different objects. I am not putting too much weight on this leak either, but it does coincide with previous rumors of a ceramic backing. Personally, I would be much more afraid of dropping a device with a ceramic back than I would of a device with plastic backing.
Preorders Shoot the “Galaxy S3” to the Top Sales Rank on Amazon’s German Site
Remember that preorder page I wrote about last week? Well, a lot of Amazon’s German customers obviously noticed that preorder page themselves, enough so that the device is currently the top seller at Amazon.de. Moreover, that preorder page also describes the device as a “Galaxy S3,” mirroring the keywords in the Unpacked app description in the Google Play Store. Also, UK carriers Vodafone and O2 (in that order) are the first two carriers to officially announce that they will carry “the next Galaxy”
