I saw some grumblings in a Google TV community earlier this week about losing access to the Google Play Store. I checked my device and found I was having the same issue. The Play Store as it existed on the ill-fated Logitech Revue is no longer supported. The Play Store now advises users to run a system update to correct the problem. For a majority of us, there is no update and we are stuck without a Play Store. There is a semi-workaround and some good news from their support forums. All hope is not lost, a least not entirely.
I could not find anyone at Logitech or Google TV that was willing to comment about the recent support issue regarding Google TV's Play Store on the Logitech Revue. I went into the Logitech Revue support portal and dug around my Google Plus GTV community to find that an update is actually starting to be pushed for some users. This appears to be a very slow update that will probably show itself to more users over the course of this week. Some users were able to clear data on the Google framework apk in settings, restart their devices, and an update would push. I am hoping (without any real confirmation) that more Revue users will have the same luck this week. I have not had such luck at this point.
In the meantime, I was able to get the Play Store to work in the Chrome browser. I was able to download a couple applications, but had no luck updating existing applications. I was also successful in manually side loading an apk, but that is a long and tedious process. I would suggest, creating a bookmark in the Chrome app for the Google Play Store and create a shortcut on the Home screen. Please let us know in the comments if you were able to get that to work for you or not. Some users could not get applications to download. It's not as if there are an abundance of applications, but for those who are downloading, I'd be interested to hear your experiences.
I hold out hope that I will hear official confirmation of an upcoming fix soon, but I do not think that Logitech or Google would hang this device out to dry quite like this. It's long since hit end of life, but there are many users still running this device for its basic purposes. I would also like to take this opportunity to urge Logitech to unlock the bootloader on this device and let some crafty developers create a robust rooting community around it, especially if they are going to continue to cut back support for device through their proper channels.
