Just Released: Weather Live by Apalon

Let us welcome another application from iOS making its way to Android. As of yesterday, Weather Live by Apalon can be found on Google Play for Android devices running 2.3.3 and up. Weather Live has done well for themselves on iOS with an average rating of 4.5 stars (21063 ratings) with a $1.99 price tag.

There is an overflow of weather applications on the Google Play store. The majority of them are just painfully awful. Many are over run with advertisements, disgusting user interfaces, and no developer support. Weather Live is fresh, new, supported, ad free, and visually appealing.

There are things that are lacking. I was disappointed to find out that the application is lacking widgets. In Android, it seems redundant to use a weather application since it requires you to open a completely new window when a widget can give you the same information but faster. Apalon informed me that they are currently working on widgets and will be coming in the next couple of weeks via an update if everything goes according to plan. If they make the widgets as nice as they make their application then a lot of people will be very pleasantly surprised. Last, I noticed that the menu options were using an old Android design, possibly even Gingerbread). For a new application to not follow the new Holo design is off- putting. It does not hinder the experience but as a long time Android user it reminds me that this application is not up to date in terms of design. Apalon went with the Gingerbread menu since it was the most popular version but they have said they will be working on updating their application to follow new standards and bring new features.

If you like what you see so far you can get the application from the link below. At $0.99, it is worth a shot. However, until the new features arrive, some will not feel they got your money's worth. I have to say I am very impressed with the visual quality of the application. The backgrounds look great and content looks rich. If the widgets in the coming update look anything like the weather screens, then Weather Live is going to be one very hot commodity.
