Galaxy S3 Launch Spoiled by Supply Shortages (Update: Price Hike Follows?)

Pebble Blue Hampered by Quality Issues, Delayed 2-3 Weeks
According to Samsung, shipments of the Pebble Blue version of the Galaxy S3 will be delayed 2-3 weeks, “In order to meet the highest internal quality standards and to provide the best quality Galaxy SIII to customers.” According to ZDNet, manufacturing problems related to the blue hyperglaze coating are to blame. It seems that splotches (pictured below) were discovered on the back covers of Pebble Blue handsets, leading to the rumored destruction of thousands of affected handsets.

UK Customers Face Shortage of 32GB Marble White Phones, Too
If you pre-ordered the Marble White variant, you might be in for a delay as well. According to Pocket-Lint, UK carrier Vodafone has reported that there will be delays in shipping the 32GB Marble White SGS3, and popular UK retailer Clove has also announced delays that will affect white versions of its phones in addition to the blue versions. As of the writing of this article, it is unclear why supply problems are also causing delays for Marble White phones.

Update: Shortages Cause Price Hike?
Rootzwiki member and UK resident NitrozK recently reported that the price of the SGS3 in one case skyrocketed from £499 to £590 in one hour at reputable UK retailer Gummobile (the price currently stands at £549.99 there). Also, an SGS3 order page at Amazon's UK site lists the 16GB Marble White version at £599.95, while "5 new" phones are listed at £499.95 (screenshot below in case Amazon changes that listing any time soon). The Amazon listing was a third-party retailer trying to use the supply chain problems to extort unsuspecting visitors (Thanks for pointing that out, Rawat XDA). It is unclear whether this sudden price hike is related to the supply chain issues that Samsung has been experiencing.
