Max Moss
Max took the dive into the Android scene back when he exchanged his Motorola Razr for an OG Droid back in 2010. From there, he started avidly keeping up with all of the latest Android news and development. However, it wasn't until later that year when he got a Droid X that he really started to get into the ROMing scene. His first ROM, FlyX by Birdman, still holds a special place in his heart.

Last year, he started his own Android blog, Android Allies. This went well for a while, but now Android Allies is inactive and Max devotes his Android writing to good ol' RootzWiki. Now, with Galaxy Nexus in pocket and Nexus 7 in hand, he strives to bring all the newest ROM news straight to the readers.

First Official AOKP 4.2 Build Released

Almost two months after the Jelly Bean 4.2 source code was released, Team Kang has released their first official build to the public. AOKP is known for their abundant amount of customization options and high performance ROMs, and this release does not disappoint. Unfortunately, this initial release is only available for the Verizon and GSM Galaxy Nexus, the Nexus 7, and the Nexus 4. However, we can expect more devices to be added in the future.

Even though this is the first official build, the ROM has tons of features for you to play around with. What is even more impressive is that with the 4.2 update, the team decided to rework all of the features we have come to know and love as well as add some new ones. Here's what the current feature list stands at:

General UI
  • Custom boot animation
  • Custom carrier label
  • Notification background
  • Statusbar brightness slider
  • Recents RAM Bar & Kill All button
  • Power menu options
Lockscreen
  • Customizable text color
  • Volume wake & music controls
  • Allow any kind & unlimited number of widgets (new)
Navigation Bar
  • Fully customizable NavBar (buttons, color, transparency, widgets, etc.)
  • Menu arrow keys while typing (new)
  • Customizable NavBar Ring
Statusbar
  • Battery indicator styles
  • Clock styles
  • Signal styles
  • Statusbar transparency (new)
  • Customizable Statusbar Toggles (new, based on Google’s tiles)
LED Control

Custom Vibrations

Sound Settings
  • Less frequent notification sounds
  • Headphone action
  • BT connect action
  • Flip action Quiet Hours (CM)
  • Disable safe headset volume warning (new)
Themes support (multi-user support still buggy, use at your own risk)

NFC Polling modes

They have also added various bug fixes (to cure what some have called the second buggiest release of Android ever) and many behind the scenes optimizations. The Galaxy Nexus builds ship with Imoseyon's LeanKernel, while the Nexus 7 and Nexus 4 ship with the stock kernel.

The team says that they will be back on their "(bi)weekly release schedule once more devices have been added." The next build should have Galaxy S2/S3/Note variants added.

Next up, the team is going to be working on porting their new ROM to more devices. If you don't have a supported phone just yet, be patient. If you do have a supported device, have fun and happy flashing!
