About The Author
Max Moss
Max took the dive into the Android scene back when he exchanged his Motorola Razr for an OG Droid back in 2010. From there, he started avidly keeping up with all of the latest Android news and development. However, it wasn't until later that year when he got a Droid X that he really started to get into the ROMing scene. His first ROM, FlyX by Birdman, still holds a special place in his heart.

Last year, he started his own Android blog, Android Allies. This went well for a while, but now Android Allies is inactive and Max devotes his Android writing to good ol' RootzWiki. Now, with Galaxy Nexus in pocket and Nexus 7 in hand, he strives to bring all the newest ROM news straight to the readers.

Zipitydooda! Flash A Zip to Restore Apps with Titanium Backup Update

In the ROM flashing community, Titanium Backup is a household name and an app that almost everybody has. That's because, if you didn't know, this app backs up all of your apps and data and allows you to restore it after you flash a new ROM. I've been using it almost weekly for about 2 years, and I know many can say the same. Now, the team at Titanium Track has updated the app to allow the user to create a zip file that will restore apps and data.

The new update to Titanium Backup brings the version number to 5.7.0, and in that update comes these new features:

  • [PRO] Can create update.zip containing apps+data, apps only or data only. Both user & system apps are supported and the file can be signed.
  • [PRO] Can upload files >150 MB to Dropbox.
  • Improved "Overview of app storage use" screen, shows app location & supports refresh / click / long-click.
  • [PRO] Improved fault tolerance for Dropbox upload.
  • Fixed failure to un-protect backups on ext2/3/4.
  • Fixed possible FC when importing a backup.
  • Misc bugfixes & improvements.
  • Updated translations.

So what exactly does making this zip file do for you? Well, instead of wiping your phone, flashing a ROM, rebooting, signing in, and then running Titanium Backup, you can flash the zip right after you flash your ROM (and Gapps), and then boot your phone and get to checking out that ROM you just installed without spending time downloading TiBU and restoring apps the old-fashioned way.

The new zip feature requires you to have the Titanium Backup Pro key, but I would definitely say it is worth it. I bought the Pro key after a week of using the free app and I have never once regretted it. So if you plan on ROM hopping like I do, get this app. It will save you so much time.
