I have been an Android fan since I first purchased an LG Ally. While not the most powerful Android, I quickly found out that by rooting and flashing custom ROMs and kernels, the LG Ally could be pushed to the limits and made to be the quick little phone it should always have been.

It was through the Ally community, that I started beta testing ROMS for Punisher/Frunisher ROM Development Team.

I am currently an HTC Thunderbolt owner.

Prior to joining the RootzWiki News Team, I worked as a Writer/Reviewer for AndroidActivist.org.

FX File Explorer Releases Version 1.2 and Offers Root Explorer Add-on for Free

Tod Liebeck, of Next App, the developer of FX File Explore recently contacted me regarding upgrades for FX File Explorer. FX File Explorer is currently in a release version, but prior to it’s release, Liebeck offered it as an open beta on the RootzWiki application forum. There are several changes to FX File Explorer in version 1.2 and Liebeck is now offering the root explorer add-on for free.

Several months ago I wrote a review of FX File Explorer when it was in the beta testing phase. I was impressed by the impressive UI and functionality of FX File Explorer. I am still impressed and have seen FX File Explorer continue to evolve into one of the top file explorers available for Android smartphones. FX is not your average File Explorer. The custom UI makes FX File Explorer extremely user friendly and efficient.

Next App is also the company behind System Panel, a really useful utiltiy app which I have had used on every Android phone I have owned. The new version of FX File Explorer features a new “usage view” which allows users to see how much storage space each file and folder is taking up. At this moment, usage view, is not a “permanent” mode (like the icon or list views) and is disabled when the user exits the file view. Usage view offers a unique perspective and gives users the ability to check and delete unnecessary files which are taking up too much space.

This feature is a nice addition to this top notch file viewer and will help separate FX File Explorer from some of it’s competition.

The other major change included in version 1.2 is larger thumbnails which makes viewing files easier.

Tod Liebeck also let me know that the root explorer add-on is now free to download from the Google Play store. Next App previously charged a fee for this add-on, so now all users can have access to this important feature. There is still a charge for the media and cloud storage add-on ($2.9(). The add-on allows a user to better manage their photos, videos and music. The add-on is also great for Users who like to have and all in one option to manage the files on both their devices and in the cloud should purchase the cloud storage add on. Users can have one app access to their Dropbox, Google Drive, SugarSync, SkyDrive and Box accounts.

So what do you think? Is FX File Explorer currently your file explorer of choice on your Android device? If you haven’t tried FX File Explorer yet, will the changes in 1.2 make you more likely to give FX File Explorer a try? Please leave a comment in the comment section below.
