LG Spectrum Walkthrough [Video]

We recently went hands-on with the new LG Spectrum, which was announced at CES and released on January 19th. This Gingerbread-packing handset has a lot to love, and comes at a price lower than comparable devices like the RAZR Maxx and Galaxy Nexus.

The latest dual core device from LG and Verizon has a lot to love, foremost the excellent display. This 4.5" device packs a pixel density of 319 ppi, which is slightly better than the iPhone's 316 ppi, and is an awesome choice for the HD addict on the go. Granted, the LG skin on top of Android does hamper overall performance, slightly, but it also includes some very nice custom widgets, as well as 7 home screens. Take a look through our video walkthrough of the device, and you can read the full review from our friends at TheGadgets.

*Note: In the video, the battery is called out as a 1300 mAh battery. It is actually a 1830 mAh battery.

Specs:
  • 1.5 GHz dual core Snapdragon CPU
  • 1GB RAM
  • 4GB internal storage, with included 16GB micro SD card
  • 4.5" True HD IPS display (1280 x 720) with Corning Gorilla Glass
  • 8MP rear camera with 1080 p video capture
  • 1.3MP front camera for video chat
  • 1830 mAh battery or optional 3000 mAh battery
  • Android 2.3.5 Gingerbread with ICS update in the works
  • Dimensions: 5.33" x 2.71" x 0.41"
  • Weight: 4.99 oz
Overall, the Spectrum is a very snappy device, with a price tag lower than that of the RAZR Maxx or Galaxy Nexus, but still offers comparable specs. If you're looking for a high-end device in the $200 range, this is an excellent choice. The stock battery is a little on the poor side, however the optional extended battery will make this a device you can certainly live with for some time to come. It has an excellent 8MP camera that works well indoors, as well as out, and the shutter lag is practically non-existent. The best feature, hands-down, is the gorgeous display. Not only is it big, but it's beautiful! The worst feature is certainly the custom skin and pre-loaded apps. Don't let that deter you, though. LG's new flagship LTE phone is very likable. As for the bootloader, LG doesn't usually lock them, so we can assume it will be the same with this device.
